All 11 National Botanical Gardens and the National Zoological Garden will be closing on 25 March 2020. The decision to close one day before the Republic of South Africa’s official lockdown was taken to enable staff to prepare their operations and to ensure smooth handovers to essential workers.

“We have extensively planned our operations to ensure that all are gardens are taken care of during this period. One of the critical areas that required our focus was the National Zoological Garden. We are not prepared to compromise on the welfare of the animals. We have the necessary expertise available to ensure this” says Carmel Mbizvo Acting Chief Executive Officer.

We wish all South Africans strength during this lockdown period and we look forward to seeing you again as soon as the lockdown has been lifted.
